Lithium battery technology is rapidly replacing lead-acid in Canadian warehouse equipment fleets. Here's why the shift is accelerating and what it means for your operation.
How to Maintain Your Electric Pallet Stacker for Maximum Lifespan
فبراير 14, 2023 - Material Handling, Warehouse Operations
Electric pallet stackers handle thousands of lift cycles per year in demanding warehouse environments. Like any powered industrial equipment, they reward preventive maintenance with long service life and penalize neglect with expensive repairs and unexpected downtime. Follow this maintenance guide to get maximum value from your investment.

Daily Pre-Shift Checks
Before every shift, operators should complete a brief inspection: check battery charge level, inspect forks for cracks or bent tines, verify mast operation by raising and lowering forks through full travel, test the horn and emergency stop, and look for hydraulic fluid leaks under the machine. This takes less than five minutes and catches most developing problems early.
Battery Care Is Critical
For lead-acid batteries: never discharge below 20% capacity, charge fully after each shift, keep terminals clean and tight, and check electrolyte levels monthly. For lithium-ion batteries: avoid storage at 100% or 0% charge for extended periods, and keep the battery management system firmware updated per manufacturer guidelines. Battery replacement is typically the single largest maintenance cost — proper care can double battery lifespan.

Hydraulic System Maintenance
Check hydraulic fluid levels monthly and inspect hoses for cracking or chafing quarterly. Contaminated hydraulic fluid causes seal wear and sluggish lift performance. Replace fluid per the manufacturer's service interval — typically every 1,000 operating hours or annually, whichever comes first.
Wheel and Drive System Inspection
Drive wheels and load wheels wear continuously. Inspect for flat spots, cracking, and debris embedding monthly. Worn drive wheels reduce traction and increase motor load. Load wheel wear affects stability during lifts — replace before wear reaches 25% of original diameter.
Annual Professional Service
In addition to operator-level daily checks, schedule a full service annually with a certified technician. This should include brake adjustment, motor brush inspection, contactor testing, and a full electrical system review. Many equipment failures that ground machines could be caught and corrected during annual service at a fraction of the repair cost.
Keep Maintenance Records
Document every service, repair, and inspection. This protects you during warranty claims, informs resale value, and helps identify recurring issues before they become chronic failures.
